Who we are

Lone Torch Games is the independent studio behind The Long Watch. We are responsible for the data described here. For any question or request, write to [email protected].

In short

  • The game only sends data when a watch (a run) ends, when you send a bug report, or when you answer the optional survey.
  • Your profile name and your scores are public on the leaderboard. You can stop posting them.
  • We do not sell your data and there are no ads.

What the game sends

Online leaderboard

When a watch ends, the game sends it to our server (api.lonetorchgames.com) to place it on the public leaderboard and in the tournament:

  • the profile name you chose in the game;
  • a random installation ID created by the game;
  • your Steam account: the game sends a Steam session ticket and our server checks it with Steam to get your SteamID. Runs are only accepted when they are linked to Steam;
  • the run itself: game version, mode, difficulty, wave reached, victory or defeat, bosses and champions, gold, duration, lives left and score counters;
  • your loadout: the defenses, cards and powers you used;
  • in Speedrun Mode, the data of the attempt (its watches and times).

We do not store your IP address in clear text, only a salted hash of it, to limit abuse. If there is no connection, the game keeps the run on your computer and sends it later.

Your name and score are public on the leaderboard. You can turn this off in the game: Settings → Game → POST MY WATCHES TO THE RANKING → OFF. One exception: watches played in Speedrun Mode are always sent, because the attempt cannot be timed or closed without them. Entering that mode means posting them.

Statistics to improve the game

From those same finished watches we work out aggregated statistics: how far players get, where they stop playing, play time, whether they come back, and which defenses and cards are used. Nothing extra is collected for this, and only the studio sees it.

Bug reports

Only when you send one from the game’s Report a problem page. A report includes:

  • the type of problem and the text you write;
  • the game version, your profile name and the installation ID;
  • technical context: screen resolution, language, operating system, graphics card, quality setting, frame rate, session time and, if you are in a game, the mode, difficulty, wave and number of defenses;
  • only if you choose to attach them: the game log (with your user folder paths removed) and a screenshot of the game.

The report is forwarded to a private channel on the studio’s Discord server and is not stored in our database. We only keep who reported (installation ID, name and number of reports) so we can thank or compensate players.

Player survey

At most once, after a few finished watches, the game may ask “Are you enjoying the game?”. Answering is optional. If you answer, we receive your choice (one of five options), an optional comment, the game version, the number of watches you played and the game language. We store it on our server. If you write a comment, it is also forwarded to the studio’s private Discord channel.

This website

  • Analytics: if the site uses Google Analytics, a cookie banner asks you first. Until you accept, analytics storage stays denied (Google Consent Mode): no analytics cookies are set and no ad features are used. Your choice is saved in your browser.
  • Contact form: if it is shown, the name, email, topic and message you type are sent through Web3Forms, which delivers them to our inbox.
  • Newsletter: if the signup form is shown, your email goes to the newsletter provider, only to send you news about our games. You can unsubscribe from any email.
  • Your browser also remembers the language you picked. Like any website, Cloudflare and our server may keep standard technical logs (IP address, browser, page requested) for security and operation.

Third parties

  • Valve / Steam: checks the session ticket to confirm your Steam account.
  • Cloudflare: sits in front of our servers and the website (proxy and CDN) and protects them from attacks.
  • Discord: the studio’s private channels where bug reports and survey comments arrive.
  • Google Analytics: website statistics, only with your consent.
  • Web3Forms and the newsletter provider, only if you use those forms.

How long we keep it

  • Leaderboard: your best watch and your last 3 watches per player.
  • Per-run statistics (no free text): kept to compare game versions.
  • Rejected runs: 90 days.
  • Survey answers: kept.
  • Bug reports: not stored by us (they only exist in Discord).

What we don’t do

We do not sell your data, we do not share it for advertising, and there are no ads in the game or on this site.

Children

The Long Watch is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you think a child sent us data, write to us and we will delete it.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your data or ask us to delete it by writing to [email protected]. Include your in-game name or your SteamID so we can find it.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will publish the new version on this page with a new date.
