The Long Watch

Free demo · out now
The demo is out on Steam
One complete watch: the first twenty waves of Act I, from the first torch to the first boss. A full run takes one to two hours or more, depending on skill, and a lost run at wave 12 is still a complete, scored watch you can start over with new cards.
What the demo includes
- Twenty waves of Act I with Sir Roderic, Hand of the King, waiting at the end.
- Five defenses with two doctrines each, seven Commander powers and a fresh armorer offer after every wave. The Frost Mage waits under the Mist for the full game.
- Three difficulties, called watches: First Light, The Long Watch and Dead of Night, each with its own score multiplier.
- The Commander's orders, delivered twice in the demo, before waves 7 and 14.
- World events: Josh's besieged camp, the village of Stillwater and the refugees on the road.
- The online world ranking with its own Demo Season, the 3D campaign map, the bestiary, achievements and the Workshop with permanent progression between runs.
- Thirteen languages, English voice acting.
Everything a player earns in the demo carries over to the full game: beat it and keep the Dawn Flame cursor and the title "of the First Watch", and the captain who finishes the Demo Season at the top of the world ranking gets a surprise.

Streamer kit
Everything you need to stream the demo without losing time: how to explain it to your chat, what to play, the moments that work live, ready-to-paste chat commands and challenges built to make clips.
The game in two sentences
It's a roguelike tower defense where you decide how the road grows: every wave you clear a stretch of fog and pick the shape of the terrain the enemy will march on. But clearing it isn't enough: you have to keep the torches burning, because the enemy sends Thurifers to snuff them out and a tower in the dark can't see.
- Length
- Twenty waves with a final boss. A full run takes one to two hours or more, depending on skill and game speed (×1, ×1.5, ×2). Plan a two to three hour stream.
- Recommended watch
- The Long Watch (normal). Already beat it? Dead of Night for a second stream. First time and want to chat? First Light.
- Defenses in the demo
- Archer, Crossbow, Catapult, Arcane Mage and Fire Mage.
- Useful keys
- Tab = the Report · G = damage stats · M = orders · B = bestiary.
Three moments that work live
- Chat draws the road. Every wave the game offers terrain shapes for the next stretch, later forks where the horde comes from two sides, and twice in the demo the Commander pins up three orders to choose from.A natural poll: "Curve or straight? Which order do we take?" If it goes wrong, it's chat's fault.
- Torches and the ambush. Thurifers walk straight to your braziers to snuff them out. A district left in the dark brings the fog back first and, if you don't win it back in time, an ambush. Your Torchbearer can relight them.Guaranteed panic. Chat sees the Thurifer coming before you do: let them warn you, or not.
- World events and the final boss. Halfway through, places appear under the fog: Josh's besieged camp, the village of Stillwater where the possessed rise a second time, refugees on the road. At wave 20, Sir Roderic, Hand of the King, arrives. And after that, better see it live.Genuine reactions. Please keep the ending out of your stream title and thumbnail. Right after it comes your score and your place in the world ranking: the perfect moment to challenge chat.
🏆 World ranking: the hook for your chat
The demo has an online world ranking. Every finished run scores points and goes up to the Demo Season leaderboard on its own.
- The score rewards playing well, not only going far: wave reached, bosses and champions defeated, gold earned, world events resolved, the Commander's orders completed, and bonuses for winning with no leaks and without letting your torches go out.
- Difficulty multiplies the total: First Light ×0.75 · The Long Watch ×1 · Dead of Night ×1.3.
- Where to see it: the final screen shows the score breakdown and your place in the world. From the main menu: RANKING → WORLD.
The top spots of the demo ranking may receive prizes, to be announced.
Use it live: show your place at the end and challenge your chat to download the free demo and beat you. Every viewer who tries it competes with you.

Challenges for clips
Not a single flame
Beat the demo, all twenty waves, without a single torch going out. One goes out and the challenge is lost, even if the run goes on.
Every time a Thurifer gets close the streamer panics and chat counts the seconds. A flame lost on wave 19 is a sure clip.
- Keep a counter on screen: FLAMES LOST: 0.
- If one goes out, chat picks a punishment: next wave at ×2, sell the most expensive tower.
- The final screen shows the flames lost, and winning with zero gives the biggest torch bonus in the ranking.
Chat draws the road
The streamer decides nothing about the map. Every terrain offer, fork and Commander order is a 30-second chat poll. The streamer only builds and defends.
Chat always picks the most chaotic option. The moment the horde comes down two roads because chat voted for the fork is the clip.
- Native Twitch or YouTube poll, or a channel points prediction: "Do we survive the wave they picked?"
- Extreme version: chat also picks every card.
- Pause the game while the poll runs.
One defense only
Before starting, chat draws one defense type among the five in the demo. The whole run is played with that one, all the way to the boss at wave 20.
Every defense solves things differently, and shielded or armored enemies punish whoever can't switch tools. Reaching the boss with Catapults only is a live battle of wits.
- Draw with !roll, an on-screen wheel or a prediction.
- Press G after each wave to show chat how much damage each tower did.
- Made it? Next stream on Dead of Night with the same defense.
Beat the streamer
When your run ends, the final screen shows your score and your place in the world ranking. That number is the challenge for your audience: whoever beats you with the free demo wins.
Every viewer becomes a player, and the stream doesn't end when you go offline: chat keeps competing with you on the Demo Season leaderboard.
- Pin your score in chat or on an overlay: SCORE TO BEAT.
- Next stream, open the world ranking on screen and look for your viewers.
- Tip for chat: Dead of Night multiplies the score ×1.3.
- Suggested hashtag: #TheLongWatch.
- The final screen has a SHARE ON DISCORD button. We'll feature the best scores and clips on the server.

The pitch
In one sentence
A roguelike tower defense where you draw the road the enemy walks, and then have to keep it lit.
In one paragraph
You just arrived at Farpost, a palisade on a hill that the kingdom has garrisoned for centuries without saying why. Every wave you push the Mist back one stretch of road, choosing its shape from a draft, and the road decides where the horde marches, where your towers stand and what you uncover out there: mana veins, ruins, a besieged camp, a village with its lights still on. Torches hold the Mist back and a tower in the dark can't see, so defending isn't only placing towers: it's keeping the world visible while the enemy sends Thurifers to snuff your flames out. Between waves the armorer offers blueprints and doctrines, the old Commander pins up orders you can take or ignore, and every run leaves something at the Workshop for the next one. It plays like a tower defense that keeps asking you to look up from the towers.
Key features
- Draft the map, wave by wave. Pick the next stretch of road from terrain shapes and watch the map, and the story, grow from your choices. No two watches are alike, and the map is the narrator.
- Keep the light or lose the tower. Light is territory. Torches hold the Mist back, Thurifers come to snuff them out, and your Torchbearer runs to relight them. Lose the light and the ambush comes.
- Read the horde in layers. Every enemy is built from shield, armor and life, and every tower bites each layer differently. Six defenses, each with two opposing doctrines: bleed or burn, mark or detonate, freeze solid or shatter shields.
- Take the Commander's orders, or don't. Every few waves the old Commander pins up three orders drawn from what your map can offer. Accept one and the other two burn. The wave doesn't wait while you decide.
- Find the people the Mist left behind. Events are deals, not cutscenes: Josh's camp, the village of Stillwater, refugees on the road. Failing one doesn't end the run. It makes the world stranger.
