The demo is out: the Demo Season begins
The free demo of The Long Watch is out on Steam. Twenty waves of Act I, three watches and the Demo Season world ranking, with a surprise for the captain who finishes at the top. Here's how it works and where to find the rules.

What’s waiting at the palisade
- Twenty waves of Act I, with Sir Roderic, Hand of the King, at the end of the road.
- The three watches: First Light, The Long Watch and Dead of Night.
- Josh’s camp, the village of Stillwater and the refugees, each one a deal you can win or lose.
- The Commander’s orders, the 3D campaign map, the bestiary, achievements and thirteen languages.
And remember: beat the demo and you keep the Dawn Flame and the title of the First Watch in the full game.
The Demo Season
With the demo, the world ranking opens its first competition: the Demo Season. Every watch you finish can climb the board, and the score rewards playing well, not playing fast: the wave you reach, the bosses you beat, the health your gate keeps, the people you save, the flames you protect and the orders you complete. Your end screen explains every point. Dead of Night pays the highest multiplier.
The captain who finishes the Demo Season at the top of the world ranking gets a surprise. We’ll announce the closing date ahead of time, here and on Discord.
To take part, keep Post my watches to the ranking turned on (Settings → Game) and play with Steam running: the ranking is linked to your Steam account, so all your profiles count as one, with your best watch and the name of the profile that earned it. If you play offline or without Steam, the watch is saved and posts itself the next time you open the game with Steam.
Where to find the rules
The rules of the Demo Season have their own channel on our Discord: #demo-season, with how to take part, how the score works, what’s not allowed and how to claim the prize. The community rules are in #welcome-and-rules, and #faqs answers the rest.
We’ll be watching
A ranking is only worth something if it’s fair. Every watch is checked when it reaches our server, and we’ll review the top of the ranking by hand. Scores made with cheats, exploits or edited saves will be removed, and whoever posted them is out of the Demo Season. If you find a way to break the score, tell us privately on Discord: it helps every captain, and we’ll thank you for it.
Tell us what breaks
This is a demo, and you will find things we missed. When something goes wrong, open Settings → REPORT A PROBLEM (from the pause menu or the main menu): it sends us a screenshot and your log so we can fix it fast. Tell us the wave, the watch and what you were doing. You can also share it on Discord. Every report makes the full game better.
Most of all: enjoy it. Light the torches, push back the Mist, lose badly, try again and tell us your best and worst watches on Discord. Thank you for standing the watch with us. See you at the palisade.
